The Sony PS5 goes official: Here is everything we know so far

The Sony PlayStation 5-Branics Blog

Today has officially unveiled The Sony PlayStation 5 after a number of teasers and it is available in two flavors which include the normal and digital edition. For those wanting to make preorders, wait on 17th September at select retailers.

People should note that the PlayStation 5 will include backward compatibility for an “overwhelming majority” of the existing PlayStation 4 lineup, although details are still slim. That expanded library might help make it more attractive to potential PlayStation buyers over the older consoles this holiday season.

The Sony PlayStation 5 will cost $499.99 which is approximately UGX. 1.9m without taxes being included when it launches on 12th-November with the Digital Edition costing $399.99 which is approximately UGX. 1.5m. The PlayStation 5 price puts it up against the Microsoft’s Next-Gen consoles, with the company set to release its an entry-level Xbox Series S at UGX 1.2m ($299) and its flagship Xbox Series X for UGX 1.9m ($499.99) on November 10th.

For comparison purposes, PlayStation 4 costs UGX. 1.5m ($399.99) at launch, however it is now selling at UGX 1.2m ($299), while the PlayStation 4 Pro originally sold for UGX 1.5m ($399.99), a price it still sells at today outside of major sales like Black Friday.

It’s unclear if Sony is planning to drop prices or discontinue the older models once the PlayStation 5 (PS5) is out later this year. We will let you know.
